1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Lexent ("we," "our," or "us") handles information when you use the Lexent iOS application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. Lexent is designed to work primarily offline, and we do not collect or store personal data on our own servers. When you use the AI translation feature, text excerpts are sent to a third-party AI service as described below.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal identifiers.
  • We do not require account registration to use the app.
  • Your books (EPUB and FB2 files) are stored exclusively on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.
  • Your reading progress, highlights, and settings are stored locally on your device.
  • We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. AI Translation — Text Processing

When you use the AI translation feature (word lookup, selective translation, or full-page translation), the text you select or the current page content is sent to a third-party AI service for processing. Specifically:

  • What is sent: The text excerpt you choose to translate (a word, sentence, paragraph, or page).
  • What is NOT sent: Your identity, book title, file, device information, or any personal data.
  • Purpose: Solely to generate a translation in the language you selected.
  • Third-party service: Translation is processed via the Replicate platform using an AI language model. Please review Replicate's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle API request data.
  • Retention: We do not store translation requests or results on our servers. The translated text is displayed in-app and not persisted beyond your session.

Translation is an optional feature and requires an active internet connection. If you do not use translation, no data is sent outside your device.

4. Local Data Storage

  • All books, reading progress, bookmarks, and app preferences are stored in your device's local storage.
  • We do not have access to this data and it is never transmitted to our servers.
  • Deleting the app from your device will permanently remove all associated data.

5. Third-Party Services

Lexent uses the following third-party service:

  • Replicate (AI translation): Text excerpts selected for translation are processed via the Replicate API. This service is governed by its own privacy policy: Replicate Privacy Policy.
  • Apple App Store (purchases and subscriptions): Any in-app purchases or subscriptions are handled directly by Apple and are subject to Apple's privacy policy: Apple Privacy Policy.

6. Purpose of Data Processing

The only data processing that occurs is:

  • AI translation: Text excerpts are sent to Replicate solely to provide you with a translation result. This processing is initiated entirely by your explicit action (tapping Translate).

We do not use your data for analytics, advertising, or any purpose other than the translation feature you requested.

7. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, the legal basis for processing text via the AI translation feature is:

  • Performance of a contract / Legitimate interests: You explicitly request a translation; we process only the minimum text necessary to fulfill that request.

Since we do not collect personal data, most GDPR obligations do not apply to us directly. For data processed by Replicate, their GDPR compliance applies.

8. User Rights

If you are in the EEA or UK (GDPR), you have rights regarding personal data. Because Lexent does not collect personal data, there is no data for us to provide, correct, or delete. For translation-related API data, please contact Replicate directly.

If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA), we do not sell your personal information. Since we do not collect personal information on our servers, deletion requests are handled by simply deleting the app from your device.

9. Children's Privacy

Lexent is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the translation feature in a way that concerns you, please contact us.

10. Data Security

  • Book files and reading data remain on your device under iOS's standard app sandbox protections.
  • Translation requests are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
  • We do not maintain servers that store your data, minimizing security risk on our side.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app notice or by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
